Ibanez? Or fender perhaps??

Ok, so Im thinking that I might be investing in a new bass, and what ive narrowed it down to is either an SR 700 or 750 from Ibanez, or a mexican j or p bass from fender. I like Ibanez because it seems they are more suited to more types of music, but Ive heard so much about fender, that im curious as to whether or not its the better bass. any advice??

Do you have music shops nearby that carry these basses? Not to buy from them, because second hand is almost always a better option, but rather to play the basses and compare them yourself. We can describe the two til our fingers fall off but it won't come within a mile of what you'll learn by playing them yourself

thats the problem, i really don't have a decent music store that carries the basses im lookin at, ya know?
