Ibanez really?

i recently purchased an ibanez sr1500p from classifieds and I am blown away completely by this bass. It's made of paduake wood or soemthing. I have and have had some pretty high end basses and this bass is either as good or better sounding then most of them.
1) I thought all ibanez stuff was junk
2) I had always heard stuff where people would say their inexpensive basses sound as good as expensive basses. I always write this off as wishful thinking on their part
Go figure

Why did you buy a bass that you thought would be junk?

Yes, Ibanez has their budget beginner models all the way to professional level instruments. They're not boutique (due to the company's size) but their high end stuff is very good (and some very expensive). Using economies of scale, they can offer a bass as nice as some other high end basses at a lower cost.

I sold a SR506 a few months back......missed it so much, I had to get another one

This one is not so pretty, but a great bass

Hard to go wrong with any Ibanez

Edit: I wish I never sold my MIJ Roadstar either

Ibanez has made and continues to make some very nice instruments.

OP -- nice for you that you're so pleased with your axe.

I just picked up an atk to be my 'beater', but is so much fun to play, and sounds so good that my other basses aren't getting played.

Yeah, I picked up a used ATK for cheap on eBay a few years back to be a "beater". My other basses still get/got played, but the ATK earned its place in the lineup.

I picked up a SR250 at a pawn shop and it was really impressive for the price. Three piece neck for stability, lots of other nice features. The action was low as hell without any fret buzz. Ibanez makes some good stuff.

I heard people saying the same thing about Ibanez instruments back in high school. Everybody was a Fender / Gibson / Martin / Taylor fanboy. I think a lot of those import manufacturers got a bad rep back in the 70s and early 80s and it just stuck around for a lot longer than was necessary. To this day people will say all Squier or Ibanez basses suck even though one could show that most (not all) of their basses are sturdy and take a decent setup. I guess that's one reason companies should be striving to put out a good product from day one--your reputation is everything.

Inevitably cheaper instruments will have lower QC to an extent but with machines making everything it's not as bad as some folks will claim. The number one gripe I'd have about Chinese instruments is the thick poly finish they spray on everything rather than any other aspect of the bass, but I get why they do it. They gotta cut costs somewhere and the product has to weather a sea voyage.

I've owned some Ibanez basses. They were really high quality instruments. The thing is, I just didn't feel the love for any of them. I really liked the Talmans. The TMB300 and TMB100 are both fine basses but I couldn't get that comfort level I have with Fender. The same holds true for me with the SR series. It wasn't a fit for me but they really are nice quality basses at any price level..

I've come very close to buy an Ibanez on several occasions. I think they are wonderful basses, and I never hesitate to recommend them. There was a SR-5(something) I was constantly checking out everytime I walked into this one particular music store. Almost bought it several times, but I really didn't need it. Still, I liked it very much and was sad when someone else eventually picked it up. (I know, it sounds silly, but I just can't buy basses that I know aren't going to get serious time in "the rotation". It's not that it wasn't worthy; I just had that area covered.)
