Ibanez SR 30th anniversary 5string anyone?

i ended up picking one of these up from a GC yesterday. This is the non premium version (those go for 1500$ yikes), but still not cheap at about 750$ plus tax

Loved how light it is (big deal for me!), the nexk, the looks, and from playing through some nice amps at store sounded pretty good to my ears.

Once I got home and started playing some more I realized action is uneven and generally too low (needs setup in short, but I’m not experienced with Ibanez basses, is this a thing with them where they are just more clanky / low action?) and the tone of the bartolini mk1 and onboard EQ is not amazing, although I can tweak things around a lot which is nice, can dial in some nice sounds.

I decided to look around online to see what people are saying, and literally found zero in depth reviews. Zero. (Found a couple of low quality videos on YT of random dudes playing it in a store)

In fact Ibanez own website returns a 404 when trying to access that model page which wasn’t very reassuring :) -

So in short, anyone else at all got one of these or has any thoughts? Should I bother keeping it and giving it a setup by a pro tech / maybe switch up pups down the road? Or is this a dud and I might as well go back and replace with something else?
I’m not terribly concerned spending extra bucks if means a world of difference if you guys have some recommendations on similar but better models

Thanks !

I happened to run across your post today. Sorry for such a delayed response. I purchased the SR40th 4 string bass and had a very similar experience. I switched out the strings and had to adjust the truss rod. I search for reviews just like you and found nothing! It's almost like our bass doesn't exist or no one purchased any. After I slapped new strings on and adjusted the truss rod, it sounded much much better. It's not quite where I want it, so I may adjust the action a little. I recommend finding a shop that does bass and guitar setups. A place in my town charges $45. I would recommend going to get it setup by a pro. It's a really fun and great sounding bass. Make the most of your purchase.

I know this is an old thread, but I’m just bumping this because I’m looking for a lightweight 5 string and there’s one of these for sale locally. I wonder if this would be a good choice?
