Ibanez SR300EL: "Powertap" Why?

With blend at only neck or bridge there is About the same buzz as the powerspan pickups or perhaps a little less, which is to say, hardly at all. It doesn’t bother me.
My fender strat is much louder.

the pickup cavity is painted with some sort of carbon coating which is earthed. First time I’ve seen this. Keep in mind this is the first bass I’ve modified.
