Ibanez SR500

I had one a few years ago. Loved the look and feel. the neck is very fast and smooth..
I did not like the black chrome finish on the hardware. Once you touch it it discolored and turned nasty looking...

I am a huge fan. I haven't found a bass with necks I like more than the Ibanez SR line (but then theres others who like thick necks and HATE them, I learned to play on an Ibby SR so everything else feels too big to me)
The finish on the SR500 is thin and takes damage, good if you like "road wearing" your instruments, not good if you like shiny and pristine.

What else is there? Buy it! What other people think about your stuff is superficial.
*If you are looking for a critique of Ibanez, there are plenty of threads on that. One large one that recently comes to mind. Oppinions of Ibanez are a lot more good than you might think. If you don't already know, they are an incredible bang for the buck. The Key negative usually stems from completely personal preference for a bass that is just fundamentally different from the "SR" idea. If you like what SR has to give, then there really isn't any other reason to stop you from getting one.
Some people here love Ibanez, some hate them. I like them, for the reasons you state. I have a SR506 and really like it. Best advice is to buy what YOU like - what feels good, sounds good and will make you WANT to play it. The Ibanez SR line has good build quality, so I'd say it's a sound investment and good value.
had a SR645 and a SR885.. sold em both. i understand everyone is different, but i think ibanez's feel and sound terrible. and just look like a metal bass. but who am i?

I hate it... I am not the only one but I am in the minority... I hate pretty much every SR I have ever played. Near to impossible to get set up without nasty clank, and pretty much impossible to intonate.
I owned an SR-506 for 29 days, it got returned on the 30th because I got frustrated at how big of a chunk of poo it was. It went back for an upgrade.
The upgrade was an Ibanez BTB, my main axe for years until recently, so I am not biased against Ibanez, just SR.

Hmm, how many SR's were you unable to get a good setup on? My SR400 and SR506 both can be setup perfect with perfect tuned intonation, but I only have 2 examples. As far as "nasty clank", I assume you mean the tone? Wouldn't that be more related to the string brand / newness / pickups / setup action?

I wore through the finish to wood where I dock my right thumb above the neck pickup, and under the highest C string from slap/pop wankery. A few dings/dents show in the finish that wouldn't show in a shiny clear-coated bass, but I dig the "mojo" factor basses. On mine, the brown finish is much shinier where my right arm rests, due to having natural skin oils rubbed into it over time, so I'd assume rubbing in oil would help it out, but not really sure. I'll let you know when I get pictures up (I'm actually going to list it for sale, I like 5 strings more than 6 and its just not being used alot anymore)
