Every once in a while, we get frigid cold, coupled with strong north winds. The strong winds create big waves on Lac Leman (also known as Lake Geneva ...(Smoke on the Water)).
The waves hit the lake walls and coat whatever is in the path.
We had it really bad in 2005. Here is a link to those pictures:

This spot is about 3 miles from the house. We drive by it every day. When the photos of 2005 hit the internet, lots of people erroneously claimed it was Lake Michigan or Newfoundland. Versoix is just outside of Geneva.
Go to Google Maps and search for "quai de versoix, switzerland". Use street view and see the street in less challenging weather.
