Double Bass Identify these strings please?

Hi,

Can anyone here identify the strings from their ball-ends? I need a set for my new bass and I don't remember the brand nor where I bought them.

Thanks for your reply! There is no tailpiece. It's an NSD bass. The wrapping on the string ends is black. The tops are also.

NS Designs strings are made by D'Addario, and those aren't D'Addarios.

My best guess is that your bass is an NS WAV and the strings are whatever were put on as stock in China.

As you don't have them installed at the backplate they are probably dedicated strings for a NS bass: that kind of narrows it down. Maybe you can ask Bob Gollihur?

They're probably the original WAV strings, as someone else suggested. As I recall, those Chinese-made strings do have a plain black wrap and ball ends similar to what you have there. We did, when they were available, sell them separately, so you might have purchased them as a less expensive alternative to the NS Electric or GHS Crossover strings.

I looked at all the accounts for a "J. Wells" in the system and didn't find anything, but it could have been before we changed over to our new system.

Regardless, they're no longer available.

I'm with Mark on this. Those ball-ends look like some stock strings I've seen on Chinese-made instruments.
