I'm an old drummer getting back into music after being away for too many years. I'm very poor and have to save up to make any purchase. I got me a nice inexpensive Ibanez bass (GSR 100EX MOL) that I absolutely love. The next thing on my mind was something to play it through. I would love to snatch up a Rumble 500 but I'm seriously thinking about a Rumble 15 to start. Like I said, I'm gonna have to save up for it.
In the meantime I got smart. (or so I thought) I figured that I could play through my computer and use the surround speakers for an amp. I got a good discount on a new Behringer U-Phoria UM2 and smugly figured I was set. Boy was I wrong.
I plugged the unit in to the only USB port that I had open. The computer responded by telling me that a new component had been installed but then stopped. No matter what I do I cannot find any other indication that the computer recognizes the interface. I know the interface is getting power because the pilot light is on and the headphones work perfectly. The owner's manual tells me what to do when certain things appear on the screen but I have never seen these things. I am accustomed to plugging something in to a USB port and everything that needs doing is done automatically. As far as I can tell nothing is being done.
I am quite sure that there is something that I am not doing. I have the idea that the computer is sitting waiting expectantly for me to push a button or click on an application but I don't have any idea what it may be. I am thoroughly stumped. I hope that I haven't purchased a small yellow sour fruit.
Can anyone help?

. I'm not going to bother to search for all the threads where such "anecdotal" evidence has come up.
