Double Bass IK Multimedia ARC 2.5 Reference Mic Jammed into a Double Bass

Here is a strange experiment I tried. I took the MEMS reference mic from an IK Multimedia ARC 2.5 Advanced Room Correction system, and jammed into a hole in my double bass, and recorded the result. I thought it would sound terrible. I didn't think it would work.

Instead, I liked it. Loved it in fact, with absolutely no EQ compression or processing.

So fair warning, this is not about my playing skills (I'm very new to double bass) but I've been trying to get a good recorded tone during the year I've owned it. I think I've stumbled on it.

What do ya'll think?

I don't play live with this bass yet, but if I WERE to use this live, I would probably run it into a little Yamaha MG10XU mixer I have on the shelf, back out through a Radial JCR Reamp box to fix the impedance, and then straight into my Ampeg bass amp, and to the PA.

It's difficult to provide an opinion without knowing how your bass is *meant* to sound. The sound you're getting on the recording is not particularly pleasing to me, but if you like it, that's what matters.

No offense taken friend. :) I would only consider this a starting place and would absolutely begin to tweak from here myself.

However as a raw in, single mic plug and play signal, in an admittedly less than ideal recording space, I was surprised at the initial signal that came through.
