I don't collect basses and don't have the cake to frequently swap/buy/sell.

I just had the nut replaced and the frets dressed for a final setup on the '78Jbass, and, ladies and gentlemen, with much credit to Michael Dolan's pup wrap, this just might be the one I'm gonna play from here on out.

I gigged with it Saturday night and there was virtually nothing I'd want to change about it.

Feel, tone, looks...it has everything I was hoping for when I bought it back and started the project.

Forever's a long time, but I think I'm done.

Done! Done!! You think you're done. If I had a dollar for everytime I felt that way, I'd be able to buy six or seven more basses. You're not done. You're just in a holding pattern until a new bass puts the hooks in you. You'll toss and turn and try your best to get away, but you'll never be done. That '78J Bass is just hanging around your neck to keep you afloat. All the fret cleaning and fast action will never be enough!!!!!!

It is a great looking bass!

I've owned it since about '83 or '84. Let's see...that's 22 years (not counting the 4 years it was in hock).

So, if I only play it another 22 years I'll be 79 and it'll celebrate it's 50th anniversay.

I'll be sure and post about it then.;)
