I just puchased a set of new EMG Jazz pickups from a Tber that came with the plug in wire which has a red and white wire connected to the end. I 'd like to installed them in a Yamaha bb605 with the existing preamp. It is vol/blend/bass/treble/sweepable mids activated with a toggle switch only. Can I use this preamp or do I have to go vol/vol? And whatever the case how would I go about it? All you can provide will be appreciated. Thanks. GOD bless you!

You can use dual gang pot and use them on the yamaha preamp in one channel input. The simplest solution. But I guess you would like to volume them separately... in that case use two single pots for volume, the rest of the electronics stays the same.
I guess you know how to wire this or...?

I'm sorry for the misunderstanding. It's the standard EMG wire. There's 3 wires-red, black and white. But the black and white is sort of messed together somehow. Anyone with EMG wiring knowledge could explain it much better. But it's the same wire that comes with EMG jazz pups only without the harness.

In most electrical wiring, black is ground. Red is normally hot. So that means that the control wire for volume or tone must be the white one. However in some circumstances, white is also used as a hot wire. Perhaps contacting emg with the serial number of the pickup, requesting information in regards to the wiring would be of the most help to avoid any possible misshaps.

From what I've gotten so far is that the red goes to the battery. The white is also surrounded with a mess type coil about an inch below the raw tip and they are both wrap in white together a 1/4 inch below that. I've put in a call to them. I'm waiting to hear back from them. Thanks!

Red goes to the battery +, the other wire is a shielded one. the core is your signal coming out from the pickup, the shield is the ground.

As for it working with a yamaha pre, I don't know, never tried. Worst thats going to happen is the preamp can't handle it and either die, or not sound good at all. No matter what happens in the end, if its not a good thing anyway, you'll probably want to get a new preamp anyway. I really like the Aguilar OBP-3 with EMG pickups.

The red wire is for the battery. The other two are obvious, the hot and the shield. The red wire goes to the battery clip, as does the built in preamp.

You can use the preamp that came with the bass, but the blend control is probably the wrong value since the bass had passive pickups. You will need a 50K or 100K blend control.

You can get them from several sources.
