Sometimes when I haven't used some of my gear for a while I start to think about selling it. Such is the case both with my 7/8 Shen and my Shuttle 6.2 and GK Neo 112 II.

The 7/8 wasn't getting much use or love since I got the old Czech Flatback, but once I put Obligatos back on and saw how beautifully it worked arco (as well as pizz) selling it was no longer a consideration.

For the last several years I have used my Genzlihur Acoustic Pro almost exclusively. It works beautifully for those smaller, quieter gigs and I've not had occasion to try and push it beyond that.

Tomorrow I'm playing in a room where the band will be playing louder (Piano, bass, drums, Fluegel) so I plugged the new/old bass into my Genz/Benz Shuttle 6.2 and my GK Neo 112 II. WOW. That setup just ROARS (using my KNA DB-1 Piezo).

As always, I LOVE the sweepable mids that both the Shuttle and the Acoustic Pro have. I think it makes ALL the difference when using a piezo.

I can't wait for tomorrow night.

I'm lucky in that I can't think of anything I've sold that I later regretted. I'm pretty sure I would have come to regret selling any of the gear mentioned above.

I have a Shuttle 9.0 that I use for electric. I wouldn't but couldn't really sell it as the top is covered in stickers. Every once in awhile, I'll plug my upright into it and start to question whether I should bring it to my next gig instead of my AI head.

The ironic thing is, lately I have been enjoying playing my electrics through my upright rig - AI head & MAS 28/18 and my upright through my electric rig GB Shuttle 9.0 head & RevSound 48VT

Two Gig Reports

Last night I played in a club with a quartet and used my piezo pickup into the Shuttle 6.2 and the GK Neo 112 II. It was plenty loud and sounded 'good' but was definitely NOT MBOL. I don't think I could have gotten as loud as I needed had I used my mic alone, plus I would have had to bring a preamp to provide phantom power. By the end of the night I was really missing my 'real acoustic sound', although I doubt very much that anyone else noticed or cared (but I did and that is enough for me).

Today I got to make up for any sonic shortcomings in spades. I played a concert in a beautiful little church, with a nice Steinway grand, our fabulous singer, and a sax/clarinetist. I used ONLY MY XLSON CHUCK ISRAELS MIC through my 'Genzlihur' amp and the sound was GLORIOUS. It's the third or fourth time I've played their Noon Concert Series at that church and it is definitely one of my all-time-favorite gigs. Good Music, Good Sound, Appreciative, Attentive Audience (and even decent pay). It just doesn't get much better than that. I got to really hear every note I played - not just the pitch, but the timbre and complete character of the bass. THAT is why I play bass and why I love making music.

Good looking band! Churches are simply the best place to play IME
