The neck profile struck me as being like a flattened broomstick...in a good way. Totally unlike any other Fender neck I've ever touched. It had charm to be sure.

Your son might get a kick out of a Fender Stu Hamm Urge I. When I had one I called it my sports car bass because the asymmetrical 32 in. scale neck was so fast.

Anybody remember Fender's Heartfield line. I still have my Prophecy and it is a great bass that has served me well. But for most situations a passive Jazz or Precision just works better. Fender doesn't make many "different" style basses because the ones they do make are what more players want and are willing to pay for. BMW still builds fairly boxy cars, and the new Honda's are definitely flashier, but when it comes right down to it I know which one I would prefer to drive.
