Impressions: La Bella 760FS flats

I love the 760FS's....I've been loving their tone and feel for the better part of the last 50 years, they are smooth, have what I consider medium tension, have deep musical lows and smooth beautiful highs. I've played a lot of flatwound and roundwound strings down through the years and I always come back to these. By the way, they really record well.

+1 on the recording aspect, great tone all around, they really lack for nothing unless you want the sizzly slap thing, than you do the RW's, Labella makes those too.

You can't compare old strings to new, and say that it is a valid comparison about the relative sonic characteristics of the strings. Compare new to new, old to old. However, having played both, the LaBellas are more scooped and brighter than the GHS.

Also having played both that's a fair and accurate statement.

i love my Labella Strings my Jazz has great old school tones 45/105,s.I prefer rounds on my Stingray.

Too scooped for me.... they get lost in the mix unless you do a fair amount of boosting in the mids. Great for recording, but not my favorite live. I have a set here just for recording.

I have sets of 760FS and 760FL and although the gauges are similar they have a completely different tone. The FL's are quite scooped or open in the midrange but the FS have very pronounced mids. The FS have more tension too.
Both can be quite bright and thumpy.

As far as flat labellas, i've only played the FLs, but tekdiver's assessment agrees with mine. Somewhat scooped mids. I use them on a PJ in a loud band and they have great presence. The lows and low mids provide a superb foundation for the other instruments, and the higher frequ's have sweet musical tone that pushes through. Really nice tone, nothing annoying about it, but also not a "lead bass" tone.

I have the 760FL .043-.104 on a P/J(long scale) and a Guild Starfire(med scale).
Best flatwound string I've tried. Even better after they wear in. Plenty of thump, with enough zing if I need it. Work great w fingers or pick, very versatile.
