Improving my tone

I just re-vamped my setup in hopes of better tone but find myself wanting an even better finger style tone reminiscent of Dan Briggs from Between The Buried and Me.
Here's my setup-

SX 5 string jazz tuned C-A# w/ a Bartolini 59 CBJD L/S Set
Fender PT-100(pedal tuner)
Ampeg SVT-3 Pro
Peavey TVX 810

Could adding a compressor in my signal chain help at all? What about an active preamp? I'm really lost as to where to go from here so any help would be good help

It's a cliché but a true one: It all starts in the fingers. Check what you change technique-wise first to get closer to his sound (Where does he pluck - closer to the bridge or the fretboard? How much attack does he play with, and how hard does it look like he is playing otherwise? How does he mute his strings?). Then, look at equipment. I'm not familiar with that bassist so unfortunately I can't help on that, but if you can find out what equipment he is using, you should get some hints...
