Gotcha... on the maple board. I'm a big fan myself (as attested by the fact that my main bass is a maple neck jazz). Honestly, you may want to keep your eye out on the classifieds here. I picked up my main bass - Lakland Skyline JO here for a little less than a new American Special (I auditioned quite a few American Standards before moving to the Lakland).

If you can afford the special you can affor the regular Mia. Just shop around and price match

yeah the Squiers (particularly the Classic Vibe 60s J) are really good. Personally I find the CV to be a step up from VM series...but many here seem to feel they are on par with each other.

HWY1s - no maple option - but killer value right now...(imho better deal than the American Specials)

few things more common than used J basses....you should easily find what you are looking for on ebay, craigslist or the classifieds here....

I've never used eBay but unfortunately the kijiji here has none and neither does craigslist
