In through DAW, out through computer speakers

Hello!

I have a PreSonus 24c and I'm wondering if it's possible to plug a bass into it and have the sound come through the computer speakers, instead of through the Main Out or headphone jack of the PreSonus.

I don't have separate speakers set up in my computer room, and I don't like to wear headphones all the time.

(While I'm here, is it possible to have the PreSonus feed Rocksmith? I also can't figure that one out)

Hey, I figured it out. Go to Sound Settings on the PC and tell it to "Listen" to the recording device. There's a bit of a lag, though.

I don't know how to close my own thread, but I'll see if I can figure that out next.

Are you processing your bass on your computer or just looking for a pass through? If pass through, you definitely want to connect your speakers to the PreSonus as it will eliminate the latency. If processing, it will still likely noticeably reduce the latency.

Why? Your computers audio is not optimized for reducing latency. The PreSonus is.

If just using it as a pass through, you can use the “Mixer knob for low-latency direct input monitoring.”

I'm just looking for a way to practice up there without hauling my amp around. Plus, if I want to practice to a song, it would be nifty to play the song on the computer. I always have a bass in that room, but I don't always have an amp. (An adapter would be cheaper than another amp!)

Yes, it's two little speakers and a small subwoofer. It turns out that I have an adapter, at least 1/8" stereo to 1/4" stereo, so I was able to plug the speakers into the headphone out and it worked! No latency on sounds from Windows and none from the bass. Pretty cool.

Is there any reason why I can't keep the PreSonus on all the time, or whenever the computer is on?

Rocksmith works, but is really flaky with the input. I can't get the tuner to really work, and the notes are a bit all over the place. Listening through the speakers, there's no noticeable distortion or anything. I guess Rocksmith just really likes its own cable (which doesn't work with modern USB ports, from what I can tell).

I have ASIO4ALL installed, but I guess I don't need it if I plug the computer speakers directly into the PreSonus. I thought ASIO4ALL only really works with host applications?
