Hello, hope you don't mind me tacking onto this thread, but I have a '77 jazz with Sadowsky single coils pups that I love, except for the hum. Would you 2-band J core be a good fit for that configuration?

Not J, but I feel kinda qualified to answer with a solid yes. Great sounding preamp.

Note that the J Core won’t fix a hum problem caused by poor shielding or miswiring. In fact, it might be wise to have the bass checked for proper shielding before you spend money on any more electronics.

Hi, does the bass have a side mounted or plate mounted jack? If its plate mounted, our 2 band would be a direct drop in replacement, and if it has a side mounted jack, the 4 band would be the replacement. In both cases, the battery lives in the cavity under the circuit board. You should have no problem swapping out the Sadowsky for the J Core, I just did this in my Moollon bass.

Yes, it's installed. Absolutely love it! A wonderful combination with the Fralin single-coil Jazz pickups. And perhaps the easiest install of a preamp I've ever done. It would have been a solder less install, but I soldered it to my dual-battery box.

What I'm hearing with the J Core isn't quite what I'd call a "baked-in" tone, but maybe clarity and definition to the tone, and true to the Jazz bass tone. My first test with any preamp how it sounds with no EQ boost or cut. I seldom ever use any of the preamp EQ, except at times, to roll off the highs in softer moments. So the side-jack model of J Core I have is waaaaay overkill with its 4-band EQ. I do like that I can set the high EQ frequency to 10K. It rolls off the aggressiveness of the tone, but it doesn't sound like a blanket was dropped on the strings. Each band has 2 choices of frequency-select via mini-switches. I've not investigated the other 3 bands. So far, no need.

The J Core and the Fralins will most likely stay in my M5V forever.
