Inexpensive bass...Squier Affinnity?

Ibanez GSR100ex. A full scale, lightweight, simple bass with one volume and one tone ctrl and one MM style PUP in the sweet spot. A well put together bass with good enough tones and a classic feel to it, IMO it's perfect for a new bass player to learn some basics on. Last I saw, Sweetwater or GC had them for $179 new... Don't forget to mention Ibanez Talman series. They are awesome basses.
This is my suggestion as well if you want a cheap bass with vintage style. A TMB 100 will blow an affinity out of the water and only set you back 200 bucks. The best deals in basses today IMHO.

If you have to have something that is more clearly Fender influenced, check out Harley Benton basses.

Even better, if you can find a used ESP/LTD Vintage 204 or 214. An excellent PJ clone that usually goes for less than 300 if you can find one
