Inexpensive powered monitors for laptop?

Hello all.

My musical operations were recently evicted from the living room, and I've set up shop in a small bedroom. It's cozy, I'll say that.

I like to play along with Pandora or whatnot, and the lovely home audio system in this room consists of my laptop and Logitech tiny little speakers plus tiny little subwoofer. This:

Help. Volume is not the problem. I don't need stuff to be very loud. I just need it to sound better, and on the cheap.

M-Audio AV40? Something else? Anybody have anything used they'd like to sell me?

dont cheap out, unless all you do is to play along. if not get a used yamaha hs80m. worth every single cent, its a good start set of monitor speakers

Playing along is all I have in mind, along with a bit of non-critical music listening. No mixing.

The Edirols aren't available here, or have been discontinued. I ruled out the M-Audios because they apparently fry themselves. Ended up going with these:
