Infeld Superalloy Roundwounds IN344????

Has anyone had any experience with these Superalloy ( .045 .065 .080 .105)?

How's the tension on these strings?

Is the tension similar to the TI Power Bass EB344? Or Higher or Lower tension?

How about the Infeld Long Scale Superalloy IN364?

These are a smaller gauge (.040 .060 .080 .100) than the IN344. Can they be used on a 34" scale bass ....like a Fender P-bass or Carvin B40? How's the tension on these?

I already have the TI JF344 Flatwounds on my Carvin B40 and the TI Power Bass EB344 on one of my Fender P-basses; I love them.

But I have another Carvin B40 being built. And I'm not happy at all with the Fender 7150M Nickel Roundwounds I have on my other Fender P-bass. Too tight/too high a tension.

I want to try some lower gauges and lower tensions for roundwounds. So I'm thinking of trying the following....


Thomastik-Infeld JR344 ( .043 - .089 )

Fender Nickel Roundwounds 7150XL (.040 - .095)

T.I. Long Scale Superalloy IN364 (.040 - .100 )

Pyramid Pure Nickel Round Wound Bass .040 - .100, BR40-N

Again, looking for lower tension, smooth playability and of course....great tone.

Anyone have experience and insight on these?

The lowest tension / greatest flexibility there is going to be the T-I Jazz Rounds. The core is wrapped with silk the full length of the string just like the flats, so that helps make them be super flexible.

There are other gauges you can go with in strings... You can even do something like 30-85 for really low tension round wounds... Look for a round core for even greater flexibility.

I have played Powerbass and Superalloys. The Superalloys are not quite as high tension as the Powerbass but are certianly not low tension. I would put them on par with D'Addario or Ernie Balls as far as tension goes. Very middle of the road.

I have not played the longer scale strings as I only own 34" scale basses. What you are suggesting might result in a lower tension set of string but TI's are already designed to be long. A 34" scale set will work on a 35" scale bass if you string through the bridge. So you would need to cut those strings well into the thick part of the string. This could cause lots of potentioal issues and I would probably not recommend it.

These are my favorite rounds but they are very low tension. Lower than the Jazz Flats. If you can get used to it they are just great strings with fantastic mids. They are NOT for everyone as they require you to adjust your playing style or set the bass up with higher action but IMO they are worth adjusting your style a bit to a lighter touch.

Fender Nickel Roundwounds 7150XL (.040 - .095)

I have never been a fan of these. My suggestion for nice medium tension strings is GHS Boomers. They sound really good and are very affordable. I would take them over Fenders any day of the week. (I have not tried the new Fender strings though)

If you are specifically looking for lower tension than I cannot recommend the TI Jazz Rounds enough. If you want to try lower tension with something a tad more affordable that still sounds really good then try DR Sunbeams.

Tension is something between D'addario XL and DR Sunbeams, middle of the road. They are smooth and you can feel that strings are expensive. TI have they special voicing. I suggest to try one of these!

Just wanted to clarify something.

I very much like these Fender 7150 series strings.

Personally, I think they have a really nice tone. I simply don't find the tension of the .105 gauge set to be comfortable for me. So I'm going to try the lighter gauges and see if they're tension is lower on the .100 set.

When it comes to tone, I think these Fender 7150 strings sound great on my 2011 Fender AS Pbass.
