Installing a Finger/Thumb Rest on a P-Bass?

Hey all,

Just curious, I have a thumb/finger rest to put on my P-bass (pretty sure I'm going to go with using it as a finger rest BELOW the strings, I love the classic look), and I was wondering..

Has anyone done this before?

How did you decide EXACTLY where to position it? Or perhaps it isn't something that is exactly measured at all?

Are there any "standards" on where to put it and how to angle it, or is it pretty much wherever looks most natural?

Yeah its an exact thing traditionally. The fender reissues have holes in the pg on where it should go.

Hey Dub,
I didn't have a template, but I did use some scotch tape. I cut a piece of it off and attached both ends together sticky side out and attached it. It may take a couple of times to figure out where you want it to go. Just put your fingers lightly behind it and use the stretch of you thumb to see if what works for you. You can outline with a marker of some sort just make sure it's not a permanent marker.
