Instrument cable repair question

OK, so I ran over my monster instrument cable in a gravel parking lot. It seemed fine and I used it for 2 shows before I noticed that the rubber was torn in one spot, and I could see the copper wire underneath it. All the insulation is still there, it's just torn, like a flap. Do you all think it would be sufficient to use some heat shrink tubing over the damaged area? I didn't notice any noise during those two gigs. I guess the alternative would be to cut the cable at the damaged point and reattach the connector. Any thoughts?
