Instrumentals?

Hi

Looking for suggestions for instrumentals for my cover band. So far we are doing:

One Step Beyond (Madness)
Tequila
Miserlou
Chic Cheer (Chic)

We are doing a mix of rock, funk, a little blues, 80s new wave, some 60s', current. Decade doesnt really matter as long as it grooves.

The Hearse - a surf tune from The Waterdogs cd Thermal. Latinized the glove slightly
Surf Rider (Old surf tune). Lat tune you hear in one of the Quentin Tarantino movies - the one with Travolta IIRC.
If your drummer can cut it Cissy Strut. That is not an easy beat for a lot of guys...
Night Train if you want to get swingy.

Tequilla is a great tune and really pretty interesting if you play it correctly

I might be inclined to mine some old Robben Ford and The Blue Line, he had some nice funky groove oriented, bluesy stuff back there...

I always wanted to do "Straight Up and Down" by the Brian Jonestown Massacre as an instrumental - like when it was used as the theme song for "Boardwalk Empire" on HBO - have to extend it out. Not danceable though.
I DVR'd and watched every season of that show - listened to the intro every time. That song is just super cool to me.

Depends on the crowd, the timing and how well you nail the strut. I've had plenty of dance crowd on it but... There are nights when it stays in the bag. Is it a song to fill an empty dance floor ? No. It's one to pull out when the party is started.

We played a 3 song cameo at fairly dead party a few nights ago... Too Much Fun, Brown Eyed Girl, All About the Bass. We left a full dance floor. Gonna rent a tux for Grammy night ? Not a chance. Get huge party started ? That we did. There will be other nights where we can light it up...

As far as Cissy Strut goes... It's all about the drummer. He's the guy doing the heavy lifting dance wise. We're all locked and loaded with the riff... This is why a lot of drummers hate the Cissy Strut. They aren't Zigaboo... It is a much more difficult feel that most folks get.

Night Train and the Robben Ford stuff I mentioned. If you want to go the fusion jazz route, maybe some old Grover Washington JR - for me it's been a long time but I seem to recall him having some nice grooves. An instrumental of Inner City Blues might be cool.
