Double Bass Insurance

I've got a policy with Musicpro Insurance (someone asked earlier), although I've never had to file a claim. It's about a buck per hundred dollars' value, and they will insure all your stuff, amps and PCs included.

Clarion, and Heritage, are two other major insurance companies that deal in the music trade. Google them...

+1
I use Heritage Insurance, INCREDIBLE company. I had a 72 P bass, a custom warrior and an electric upright stolen a few months ago. Heritage was quick and easy to work with, they sent me a check within about a week.

I pay 250 a year with NO deductable and I think I have 18,000 worth of coverage. That covers my amps, my cabs, basses, just about everything I tour with.

look them up to say the least.

Uncletoad mentioned the type of insurance I have had for years.

Here in the Mid-Atlantic region there's a company called Erie Insurance. I insure my home with them (which I think may be a requirement - or at least renter's insurance...?...) and also have what's called a [Invalid or Expired Link Removed] (the website description is pretty vague unfortunately) and it does not necessarily have anything to do with boats...

On the policy each item is listed, and the insured value is notated. I have 2 upright basses, an EUB, electric bass, a tuba, 4 amplifiers, speaker cabinets, flight cases, gig bags, monster cables, various accessories, etc... all insured. I have a $100 per incident deductible - all perils, actual cash value (meaning that they pay on the insured amount without depreciating).

I have around $30K of coverage, and it costs me less than $200 a year.

That rate may be because I have been with them for a long time, and have only filed one claim - which was handled quickly and correctly.

I think this is (or at least used to be) a relatively unknown type of coverage, and just might be what you are looking for.

that's sounding pretty good to me, but has anyone filed a claim with these guys? i've looked into getting a policy with them in the past and they have been unresponsive - wouldn't want to find that this was their m.o. when i needed to replace my babies.

thanks,
sean p

Yep, do a search for it. I spoke about my claim with MusicPro last year.

I had a claim with them when the scroll and one of the tuners on my Solano Klotz was damaged on a gig by an a- hole and a chair that was protecting.

I had the same reservations with unresponsive customer service when trying to change my policy, etc., but the claim was by far the easiest time I ever had with insurance. Very quick, got my check, no problems.

My experience has been the same. Terrible service when trying to update equipment list...they're equally bad if you have problems with their archaic web-based payment method, which they practically insist you use...

BUT, when I made a claim they were communicative, and paid fast as lightning. Which is what matters the most, no?

This is good to hear. I posted the original question about MusicPro but went ahead and bought a policy before there was any feedback. The only other caveat I'd add is that the policies run June to June, so if you buy mid-year like I did you may not get a prorated break on the coverage. But, with my bass, my son's drums, and a couple of other decent instruments in the house, it's cheap peace of mind. We're not pros, but we do play outside the home and my understanding is that homeowners coverage is really limited.

You know, I'm frequently shocked at how many musicians don't understand this, and believe that their homeowners policy will cover their gigging gear. I always walk away from those conversations hoping they don't find out the hard way.

They do prorate the amount you pay if you get a policy in the middle of the year. This is what I did the first time.
