Double Bass Interested in a EUB, Need a little guidance

I think the best way (at least for me) to look at electric uprights is to view them in their own right. That means not comparing it to a real double bass or fretless electric. It's got its own identity and possibilities and sound.

I really like Eberhard Weber because of that. He has his own sound which is not like a double bass or fretless bass but somewhere in between. He adapted his playing to the instrument.

If you don't view it like that it will always be a compromise instead of making use of the new potential.

I'm very happy with my NS NXT5 low B. As has been said, It's not an acoustic carved DB. But it is a great sounding EUB. My Jazz/fusion jam buddies dig the sound I get out of it. Check for factory B stocks for a good deal.

Like F Clef noted above, the key to any EUB is not to expect it to sound and lay exactly like a DB. My NXT4 isn't like my Fender P, that's for sure but neither is it identical to a DB. The sustain and decay are more akin to a DB, which is why I got it. NS really intended it to be its own thing, not a DB, not an electric.

I second the suggestion. I just saved $700 buying an NS NXT5 B stock on Reverb.com. I can live with a few blemishes to save that kind of dough on a quality EUB.
