iPad users - recording docks?

I have an old iPad 2 collecting dust. It's a shame that the OS can't be updated, but I guess that's how Apple makes money nowadays I DIGRESS

Last year I didn't have a computer (!) for a few months and needed to record a song and did it all on this iPad and it was horribly clunky and a painful process. Let alone a hassle to find an decent app that would run on it. Again, a big FU to Apple I DIGRESS

Rather than sell it (to who?) or e-waste it, I was thinking about those DAW/recording docks that came out a few years back, i.e. Behringer iStudio iS202 or the Alesis iO Mix etc. I've been shopping for a standalone recorder like a Zoom, but this might fit the bill/do the trick.

Anyone used one of these?

edit: alternatively, RODE makes a stereo mic (the iXY) that could work too

I have my old original iPad in an Alesis IO dock. I normally use the iPad for an onstage teleprompter, but not gigging live anymore. The iPad and Alesis is great if I want to do some simple multi tracking and not fire up the computer/interface/speakers, etc. or if I'm on the road (eg., at the cottage for the weekend). I have a old but functional version of GarageBand on the iPad.

I bring an iRig pro i/o with me for iPad recording any time I'm travling.

You could look into Jail Breaking the iPad
It could speed it up.
You'll get an additional app store called Cydia
If there's an app you want to try in Cydia they do offer 14 day free trials. Apple app store will still be there but Apple doesn't have any trial period for apps.

Where your iPad can be an extra display for your PC or Mac
I use this in some cases. I can slide an application over to the iPad to take it off my laptop display yet still see and control it.

I remember doing that with the very first 2G iPhone.....looks like it's the same goofy azz process. I think this old iPad is barely out of date to be useful. I guess I'm an old fart because it's pretty F'ed up that Apple stuff is just as disposable as anything else, their hardware build quality is/used to be (?) 2nd to none.

Sweetwater just lowered their price on a Zoom H6 package that includes 2 capsules, case, etc. so I pulled the trigger on that.
