Irn-Bru!

I disagree with the hangover thing, if anything it will just make them worse in short order. As will any fizzy drink.

It does help with hangover's, as it is mostly sugar and water, both of which are good for helping with the after effects of too much alcohol. My mate who was studying at Edinburgh UNI practically swore by the stuff for getting over the night before.

Its more a quick fix which wears off, as carbonated drinks do not hydrate you properly. I tried it in my drinking days, and it does just make things worse, or have the occasional placebo effect.

Whats your mate studing at edinburgh? im at dundee uni and have quite a few friends just going into thier final year or having just graduated from edinburgh uni.

He was studying Biology, he just graduated at the top of his subject (the git), and is about to go onto a paid PHD placement at Cambridge.

When I was in Hospital due to extreme dehydration, the Doctors recommended drinking flat lemonade for the Sugar and water, to get my energy/water levels up - I assumed IRN BRU would be just as good.
That said, if I have had a drink, a pint of water and a milk-thistle tablet seems to render the next day hangover non-existent.

Theres the difference. Flat lemonade ;) , and the sugar would have been to get the energy levels up, when you ingest alot of sugar on a sensitive stomach (ie after alot of drinking) it can be bad. Best hang over cure is salt water, not strong salt water, just a wee bit salt in it to boost your ion levels as they can get a bit depleted after heavy drinkage !

Thats cool :) , I should have just graduated for my Biochemistry degree this year, but had to resit, so only just now going into my honours year :(

Most PhDs are sponsored, but thats good on him :) Not what i would have done, you can shoot yourself in the foot if you just keep going through education as you've spent too much time on the shelf :( . My plan is to go back (most likely part time) after 2-3 years experience :)

You don't get mountain dew?! I'm sorry to hear that, I <3 that drink :(

Not anymore im afraid :( It sucks! there are ways to get it but its too expensive! I brought quite a few bottles back after the last time i was in states tho, its soo good!

That and packs of Jolly Ranchers and Big Red!

I love Irn Bru. I feel sorry for those who can't get hold of it, it's lush! It's a chip shop favourite in the UK. I dig it!

Chip Chip cheeroo, Ole guv'nor, Tis quite an exquisite cabanated beverage lad.

Sorry for crappy english impression, I had to do it. When I lived in scotland I had it like eeeeveryday. it's the beeeeeeest drink ever!
To bad i have to drive an hour from where i live to get it.

I grew up in the south of England as a "soft, southern, shandy-drinkin' shite" and I remember being told (as a child ;) ) that the reason so many Scottish people had red hair, was because of all the Irn-Bru that they drank :smug: !

:hmm: We didn't have any theories on why they were all so keen on wearing skirts, though!

:p Again, please sense the playful sarcasm here.

Hey! kilts are very comfortable. If its nice and mild, it feels like yah wearing, nothing at all!

Yes Thebutler, the hour drive is more then worth it!

From my experience Irn Bru does the biz with hangovers......even in diet form - which to me tastes better these days...I find the 'full fat' bru just too damned syrupy!!!

Better yet to prevent hangovers, before retiring for the evening after a session, a pint of water (or optionally Irn Bru) to wash down two 500mg Vitamin C tablets (the high strength jobs, your choice for chewable or not).

This will certainly limit the damage done in hangover mode ,if it doesn't indeed prevent it altogether!:bassist:
