Is a HPF redundant with a SansAmp BDDI V2?

I run the blend at 50% too (for the sound of the instrument).
It looks like that scoop is just part of the cabsim for a big vintage cab:
you could try boosting mids @500hz to neutralize that.

Well the scoop of the Sansamp is closer to around 1kHz, so that is what you should be boosting to counter it.

Hi all,

My main sound comes from my pedalboard, which consists of MXR M76 -> OE DCX Bass -> SansAmp BDDI V2. I usually go straight into the Return input of any given amp, or straight to PA.

I see (almost) everyone raving about the benefits of a HPF to clean up the unruly low frequencies of one’s bass tone.
Now, the BDDI has quite prominent, punchy lows. However, the SansAmp circuitry is meant to emulate amp + cab. There’s an analog cab sim which usually means that the “high highs” and “low lows” are trimmed a bit.

So my question is, is a HPF redundant with the SansAmp? I was thinking of getting a Broughton adjustable HPF to put in front of my chain, to clean up my low frequencies.

What is your experience with this setup ? Thanks!

The SansAmp BDDI V2 is a classic, iconic pedal that is loved by many ... including sound technicians who mix them for the FOH sound. I would keep it simple and just us the SansAmp as it is.

The knob position, I believe; with 12:00 being blend 3... just a guess.

I suppose one mans honk is another man's punch, snap, definition and articulation, and I would also say it very much depends on which mix exactly we are talking about.

While we’re at it, I assume there’s no need for an LPF either with a SansAmp, as the SansAmp circuitry has a speaker sim that rolls off high frequencies, right?

I’ve since switched to the ParaDriver V2 and sold my BDDI V2.
If I wanted to get an HPF still, probably the Broughton one, where would be the best position for it? Just after my tuner, first in line, or after the SansAmp?

I mostly use the SansAmp with the +10dB switch on, so I can drive the power amp of whatever amp I use. Would the Broughton HPF withstand that much gain coming from the SansAmp?
Stupid question probably, but I just don’t know….

I put my Broughton HPF LPF at the end of the chain, just before BDDI. Why? I cut the high end for dirt pedals as a sort of rough cab sim plus preparation for BDDI v2 to take it further. With it, the blend knob is more useful on BDDI as I don’t need to rely solely on BDDI as a cab sim for dirt. I tried using HPF LPF first in chain but it sucks for shaping dirt that way. I want my signal to be shaped right before it hits my amp and/or my BDDI. Both low end and high end. I use 80 Hz (60 Hz for Stingray) for HPF and 5 kHz for LPF. The result is a thick but tight tone and my dirt doesn’t sound like fizzy crap unlike when going direct.

Edit: I see you’re asking about HPF solely. Still, at the end for sure, to shape the end result no matter the pedal.
