Is it bad if the strings are slapping the pickups?

I know that you can adjust pickup height and all that. Basically, I am NOT asking how to fix this.

Lately, I've been playing with a lot of gain, and I really like the sound I get when I use a bit more force with my fingers, and get the sound of the strings hitting the pickups. I'm just wondering -- can this cause any long-term damage to the pickups?

I don't see how it could, but I pretty much fail when it comes to anything electronic, so I just need to make sure.

Thanks for any help.

Edit: sorry if this is in the wrong section, I wasn't totally sure where to put it. Also, I'm not sure if they're actually contacting the pickups, but I get sort of "twangy" sound.

I don't see any long term damage, as a result.

I think the phrase "string slapping against the pickups" refers to the sound being made. If your strings are indeed hitting the pickups, then it would be a concern.

I also enjoy the sound as well (have my basses set up in a similar fashion), but my strings don't come anywhere near the pups.
