Is it ok to change its mind about flatwounds ?

My first experience with them was a set of Chromes into a Precision, but I never cared for the tone (I called it "empty shoe box" tone).
Funny thing is what I'm after is 60's/70's old school thump, no highs, no slap...with the Tis Jazz rounds that subbed the Addarios I almost close all the tone knob, and scoop a lot of mids on the amp, so I basically try to emulate the flatwound tone...

I just got a Danelectro Longhorn. It came with flats, not sure which brand they are (if someone could clue me in, I appreciate; they have blue silks and red/blue/white/red - EADG ball ends).
I LOVED THEM !
BA112 is equalized about the same (in the mid scoop fashion), but I can get the tone I'm looking for real easy with both pickups, tone knobs also closed.

Now I'm wondering if my dislike of flats (specifically Chromes) on my P was due to the different amp I was using at the time (Ampeg Micro VR and 1x12 cab), my lack of ability to equalize them (I used a more "flat" eq back then), or simply because I didn't like the brand...

Chromes are not exactly traditional flat sounding. More of a hybrid tone.

Based on the ball ends they could be Rotosounds.

I used to use flats almost exclusively, but I recently switched to rounds when I started playing again and got into the heavier genres.

Ah, forgot to mention. On the ball side, silk is black.

Sounds like they're Rotosound Jazz 77 Flats "short scale".

Definitely I dig those. And since I'm having so much fun lately trying new strings, I had Pressurewounds (both long and short scale) on order...

I love flats..... but I hate Chromes. I think most people get turned off by flats because generally their first contact with them is usually with Chromes.

It was a rethorical question for sure, with a mix of Chromes bashing and some expectation of "sure, you must try flats again on your P, get those this time"... ;-)

Probably the biggest lesson i took from this is that experience you must earn, could not be lended.
Most Chrome reviews I read were positive, and on the other side, negatives for Rotosound 77s...

I also hate Chromes. They go from zingy when new to lifeless thud. If you want "old school," La Bella or GHS are the choices. The Optima RB set is also good for "old school."
