Is it possible to play a track and record a track simultaneously?

    Cubase 7LE question:

I recently bought a Zoom B3 which included Cubase 7LE. I've installed the ASIO driver (which is successfully recognized when I turn on the B3, plugged in via USB to my Win 8.1 workstation).

What my intent is is to record myself practicing along w/ songs in iTunes. Specifically, I'm wanting to import a .mp3 into Cubase (already learned how that works) and play along with the track, recording my practice. I'll then be able to review the practice while playing back both tracks and identify where I'm off.

So, in a nutshell, is this possible? If not, can some of you suggest the layout how I would do this?

Thanks for understanding! I'm savvy on PC things, just not on recording software and its setup!

hmm. Im a logic guy myself, but I can import an audio file (mp3) into a track, then play/record along with it. Ill have the original mp3 as one track, then my recording as a separate track. So, in a nutshell, yes its possible. It sounds to me your already on the right track :)

  3. yes, you can. this is exactly how I practice with my B3.
I use Reaper, but im bored so im gonna install the DAW that came with my B3(sequel le3) and see how it works.
    I will report back.
also, I eq as much of the bass out of the imported mp3 as i can so its mostly myself i hear when i play the track back.

  4. after installing sequel onto my laptop, and spending 5 minutes with it, i deletted it! that program is a mess.
if the program that came with your B3 is anything like that i would strongly recomend downloading Reaper and using that.

Might just do that. I thought the same thing, I'm not a Cubase fan I guess. Think I might just do what I know
I also had downloaded Audacity, I'm going to grab a copy of Reaper and see what I think...sounds like I'm on the right track!
