Take it out of the studio and go play some clubs. Don't use a guitar stand, just lean it against the amp on break.
iirc the highway ones were some kind of acrylic and mine got super glossy from contact with my arm and clothes

From everything i've read the AVRI series that rolled out ~2012-2017 had really thin finishes. Like to the point you can naturally wear it down just by playing it. Pretty sure this was a choice by fender to appease the people who want really thin finishes. I saw a few display models at GC that had dings and wear, more so than normal display instruments get.
Id say just play the thing man; you'll be surprised at how fast it wears. I had a gibson eb in a faded finish and in a year of playing it moderately(at home) there were little dings and wear all over it, and im not even abusive with my instruments. If you try to relic it yourself on purpose theres always the chance it'll turn out horrible and look stupid.

Hey team, I'm not sure about "real" nitro finishes or what year had what finishes and all that what-not. But I do know this is my 2017 '63 a AVRI. It was said to have a "flash nitro" finish. Whatever that means. I did not "relic it." And it wore out pretty fast. The paint is very thin and it dings very easily. I might be a little hard on my basses. The paint on the forearm wore away pretty quickly. I did leave it outside and the Olympic white "yellowed." But the rest of it is just from being played a lot and not being handled with kid gloves.

Wow. Mine is 14 months old and has a tiny mark where i rest my arm and that’s it. I gig with it too and am not terribly good about wiping it off. I guess it varies from person to person. I play about one gig a month and have other basses I use also.
There was a time I was playing in Chicago gigging weekly. Small stages, large band, no stand, etc. It got banged up pretty good. I have other basses but the avri is all I want to play so it sees a lot of use.
