Is the Rat pedal good for bass?

Is the Rat pedal a good pedal for bass, and if it is, which one is the best?

god yes. i've got a rat 2, i think it's probably the best cos it goes as heavy as you'll ever need, and the juggernaught is supposed to be rubbish. you can mod a rat to give a bassier sound too, search ruetz rat in here and on google.

I have tried a Rat 2 and a Turbo Rat. I would say that the Rat 2 can get a bit nastier, but the Turbo Rat still has a good grind and keeps more low-end.

I've just got the rat deucetone for a good deal, which has all the rats (turbo, vintage, etc). Do you find any low end loss?

yeah, i did, but then i did that ruetz mod. not sure if youcan do that to the duecetone though. try a blend loop?

I think they ALL have some low-end loss, yeah. But I found the Turbo better than the 2. Never tried the Vintage, You Dirty or Juggernaut

IMHO, a RAT2 sucks the most...You lose a LOT of low end, but it's WAY nasty!
If you want to retain low end, go for a vintage/vintage reissue OR mod your RAT to hell and back!

Thought about the Turbo Rat, I know that Justin Chancellor of Tool plays one, but I went with the E-H Nano Muff, and have not regreted it.

I never owned a Rat, but I can say that MXR's M85 Bass Distortion, in which our own @rratajski had a contribution, is stellar on bass.

I find mine doesn’t have a lot of output. However, my pickup is super hot and I think a lower output from the bass would help the pedal significantly. I prefer my DOD Boneshaker.

That said, I love the MXR on guitar.

Sounds like your pickups are deeeeefinitely too hot. I hit unity gain on my passive instruments before noon IIRC.

The Reverend P style pickup is 12k ceramic. It’s a fire breather. Doesn’t hit unity on the pedal until well past noon, and doesn’t have a lot of boost after that.
