Is there a difference between two 12 cabs and one 2x12 cab?

for me having 2x112 is great, modular etc etc...both together sound so good and plenty loud for anything I'd need, I mean this is a really loud set up, I can overpower a drummer and 2 guitars easily....I generally have the bottom tweeter off and the upper at 50%...they have a single top mounted handle, just under 40lbs, 2 on my cart is not a problem...

The only difference I ever hear is that with two 112 cabs you will get (if so equipped) two HF drivers which could give you a touch more high-end presence. Since most cabs have HF driver attenuators and most bass amps have high frequency EQ adjustability, I find this difference to be lost in the noise/music.

I don’t know about the science, but to my ears a 212 cabinet sounds a bit better than two 112 cabinets, and a 410 sounds better than two 210 cabinets. Whether the difference is enough to overcome the convenience of using two smaller cabinets is another issue.

I don't have a 1x12 but I use 2x10's and 2x12's. I think it depends on what you want to do at the venue? Small clubs/bars I use 1- 2x10. Medium size venues it's easier to use 1- 2x12 cab(1 less trip, set up time) but sometimes I want the choice of manipulating angles of 2 speakers so I'll use 2- 2x10 cabs. I think if you play mostly small clubs you might wanna get the 1x12, but if you do a lot of medium/large clubs, the 2x12 may be the better choice? 1 less cab, 1 less trip, set up time and at 800 watts, better to have too much than not enough? Good luck on your quest!
