Is there a pickup with the same 'footprint' as a mudbucker besides a Dimarzio?

Aren't they just a guitar HB size PU with a fixed metal mounting flange rather than the typical guitar mounting ring? If so, there's heaps of options.
Also, do you want it to sound like mud, or just have the increased low end of the placement at the neck butt?

Looking for a more EB type sound, rather than the open "breathe-y" type sound the Dimarzio has. Probably going to get an Artec mudbucker just to see how it sounds and since you can get em on Amazon for 30-ish American.

This is actually super cool, it looks like this dude makes some sick pickups. I'll hit him up in the future to see about my next build, and if the Artec pickup I ordered doesn't suit me, probably this bass too

Does Dimarzio still make the Model 1? I've never heard this "Will Power" but their Model 1 was always the go-to mudbucker replacement for maintaining the best characteristics of the Gibson EB-x sound while mostly avoiding the worst.

It's not Fender spacing, though.

I did once find a Fender humbucker replacement source which might also work for you, but I can't remember what it was or if I have it bookmarked in any useful way.

Sentell's UnMudbucker is amazing. But it sounds nothing like an EB (hence its name). It is the most shockingly articulate mudbucker replacement I've ever heard.

interesting! when you tap them? when you actually speak into them? I mean, all pickups will pickup sound a bit if there are strings above the pickup, since when you talk or other sounds cross the strings, the strings vibrate like a very bad quality microphone transducer in the magnetic field, and the pickups output the sound.

That's how billy sheehan used to yell into his bass to have a conversation with steve vai when they'd play live, or gilbert used to speak into his guitar during his solos in mr big. It was super distorted of course due to his processing, but it worked.

That's also exactly how the TC TonePrint app works. Apparently it works on any magnetic pickup, not just microphonic ones.

I can rub the body of the bass or knock on it like a door and it almost sounds like I'm tapping on the polepieces with a screwdriver

that ain't right. it just ain't. they clearly have been damaged in some way, or are fakes.

I really can't imagine those are real dimarzios - they are one of the absolutely top pickup builders in the world, and are renown for having pretty much invented passive pickup technology that makes them immune from that sort of thing.

but who knows what someone else did to that thing in the past.

I purposely have used dimarzios in many guitars and basses over my life due to their complete silence in the circuit, aside from picking up the string as they should, and tone that doesn't need an active preamp to sound amazing.

anyways - yea, that totally sucks and I feel for ya. All I'm saying is.. don't blame dimarzio. A used ferrari that goes clank clank bang when it idles is not representative of ferrari - it is representative of the previous owner ;-)
