Is there a Yamaha BB club? There is now!

Hey everyone! I scored a crazy deal on a BB405, and decided to have a little fun with it. It came as a natural finish, but I stripped it down, sanded it, and then gave it a hand stain. It was our first go around (my incredible wife helped out), but I think we have the itch to try a few more. I also added an audere preamp, which sounds great. I just thought I'd share!

Curious - what kind of stain did you use? End result looks fantastic!

I've always wanted to do something like this using Keda wood dyes.

Strung up the BB424X with 45-100 EB Cobalt flats. Sounds massive through my chain with plenty brightness on tap. The stock Yamaha pickups really put out a nice full-range signal and the cobalts are a great match for this very musical sounding bass. Always hunting for the hidden gems out there, I struck gold once again. It ain't a feather weight though, so there's that. Don't care, it's worth the extra effort.

I put the Agie J HC's in my BB404 with an oil cap. Sounds so freaking good!!

I put Delanos in my BB605 and I like it. But I have Aguilar pickups in my Fender Jazz bass and I am always thinking about switching the Delanos for Aguilars

Man the BB424X in red is probably one of my favourite basses.

I have Delano's in a Warwick Streamer I just picked up last week. I like them very much but the HC's in the Alder body on the 404 give it such a classic vibe but beefed up. I know a cap is a cap but I think there's also some MOJO in the NOS oil cap. It just sounds like buttery carmel. Warm and smooth. They have a great top end as well. Not at all harsh. I tried a bunch of differant pickups in that bass both active and passive and the HC's just...well they were the one.

Absolutely no issue with the 1024x. I also have a BBp34 and a BB434. All three are awesome. I love the BBs. But I just want to have a 2024x in sunburst so badly

I know what you mean, having a BBP35 and a BB1025X myself. The BB2024/5X is for me a modern pinacle of the Yamaha line, even though my BB1025X is probably 90% of it. The heart wants what it wants.

I have a BB1024X (love it), and looking for a new set of strings. Right now it has Dunlop stainless rounds, but with the stings and pickups the sound it quite scooped. So I'm looking for a stainless steel roundwound set, what has broad mid range...

GHS Super Steels. Not overly zingy up top, but a good, strong mid character.
