Is this a knot, and does it matter?? (Also black/maple or SB/RW?)

I’m planning on buying a p bass today, and I’m caught between the classic SB/RW combo or black/maple. My real question is if this mark on the back of the p bass, under the neck plate, is a knot or just some odd grain? Photo is attached below. Thanks for any help, and votes for black or sunburst are welcome lol

That doesn't look like a knot. It's just a darker spot in the wood. It won't affect anything.

I always went by this;

The sunburst is warmer. Honestly what I was leaning for sound wise. They both play about the same.

Even if it were a knot, it wouldn't be an issue for any reason other than aesthetics. I have a couple of basses with knots, my first Precision had a heart shaped knot dead center on the back, if anything it's helpful in identifying your bass if it ever gets stolen, like mine did. My #1 has a decently sized knot on the neck, no functional issues whatsoever.

It won’t have any effect as it is on the body and it’s big piece of wood therefore stable.

For the basses, can’t you just buy both ? That would be an almost complete arsenal !

Buy both. Whichever one you pick, you will probably wish you bought the other. Try them both for a bit and then sell the one that you don't bond with. If you bond with both, you then have a primary and backup. FWIW - they both look awesome.
