Is this a strange way to record a guitar?

Re-amping is becoming a popular thing with some guitar players, there are great possibilities for mix tweakers. I have been clandestinely recording a dry direct guitar track for a while and doing my own treatment on guitars for a while and often the players like my creations better than theirs.

a lot of the time, the amp sim sounds better than the cheapo amp they are using. sometimes it can be used in tandem with their amp to make more complex tones (make sure to check phase relationship). and a lot of the time they dont know what they want. much easier to decide later when the track is in the mixing stage.
