I brought back to GC the boat anchor I picked up last week and found this Chinese Squier that other than the color spoke to me. The thing is immaculate and sounds great. From the serial number (CGS121xxxx) I still don't know how old it is, but there's not a single scratch on it.
That leads me to think that this bass was refurbished, I am inclined to think that they painted it, the neck also has a very glossy clear cover which I think is not too old. The action is great, it seems obvious that it was setup and the bridge has some heft to it, although the brass looking saddles look aged.
The pickguard looks new, there's still plastic around the input jack.
I am wondering if this is authentic and refinished or perhaps a put together job?
I am not too concerned with this as I want this as a beater that I will probably modify, make it a pickup test bed, etc.
Down the road I'll probably have it painted, my wife's first question was "are you going to bring that to church" ;~)
I will greatly appreciate your feedback.
Mike
