Double Bass ISB Convention 2019

I would recommend attending any of the headliner concerts in the evenings of the event. These shows are usually the heavy hitters of our industry in the classical and jazz idioms, and very inspiring!! Have a great time, and soak up all you can. Regards, KJPbop (aka Kevin Piekarski)

I'll be there all week, and will be doing a presentation on Friday morning.

I see that @Adam Booker is presenting on Thursday, so will be sure to catch that and say hi. Also, @LynnSeaton will be giving a recital on Tuesday night. Looking forward to the whole thing and having my mind blown just like last time.

Gah! I so wish I could make it (I have auditions next week here at the school where I direct two string orchestras). Martin Penning was hoping I could make it so I could enter the bass he made me into one of the competitions (tone, or craftsmanship, or some such).. obviously that's not the only reason I'd wanna go (I've never been to an ISB convention). Anyway, I'll have to enjoy the videos from it once they show up on the ISB site, and hopefully I can make it 2 years from now.

What you'll find interesting depends on you, but as a volunteer, you'll have a LOT of people to talk to. I predict your plate will be full, quickly. Just ask.
Going Thurs - Sat. myself Hoping for NBD !
Thanks for volunteering, me too. They need the help, so anyone else going, please consider it. I believe volunteers are run short supply, for example in herding the large groups of kids.

@Chris Fitzgerald

Nice work at ISB. You’re presentation was fantastic and offered a lot of thought provoking material.

I really appreciated the connection you drew between “Careless Whispers” and “Ornithology”. Haha. Just playin’

All kidding aside, it was a great presentation and I look forward to digging in to the material you passed out today.

It was nice to put a name to a face as well.

Safe travels home.

@Michael Drost Thanks for attending, and nice to meet you and your boys. It's been an incredible week. The concert tonight....holy question marks, batman! A word of advice for anyone reading: look up Lorraine Campet. That was some of the most gorgeous playing I've ever heard. Wow.

Only one more evening of concerts to go. It has been an amazing week full of incredible performances and presentations. I am continually astounded at how friendly and open minded the international community of bass players is. I have encountered basically zero vibiness or attitude all week. Bass players are the best!
