ISP Decimator Prorack G

Well i just got an ISP Decimator Pro Rack G(non stereo mod) for my rack and have been enjoying it's results so far...I need to test it out though in a full band setting etc...Anyways I figured I'd start a thread about it seeing as there doesn't seem to be one specifically for this unit. Enjoy!

Good call!

I majorly depend on my Boss NS-2, which is about the only thing that's close - in that (if I understand correctly) the Decimator also uses the original, clean, untouched BASS output in its 'detector-decisions'; 'Remote-sensing', as I call it.

What the NS-2 doesn't have (and a BIG 'doesn't' it is, as compared to the Decimator!) is the dynamic lowpass filter!

Yeah i think it was agood call, i mean I originaly sought the Rocktron Hush Super C but I figured why not just pay more and get improved technology with this thing...this Decimator is my first and probably will be the last one I ever need...I figured why not just get the best right from the get go. The only thing it lacks is the extra options with the stereo mod(basicly there are three outlets to plug things into instead of two) In the unit I have, you just run your bass through one channel and the rest of your effects through the other... Also I mean lets face it, how often will I ever need two amps on stage at one time and the baggage carrying it all etc...For me i'm mainly using it to reduce the noise generated from the basses and fulltone bass driver...The other rack units themselves BBE 482i.., ashley CLX-52 comp generate little to no noise at all... so there is little noise reduction needed there...With the main bass running through this thing, and the effects in the signal chain, so far this thing is really cleaning it up big time... Like when you arent playing and have it set to the level of reduction you want and not touching strings etc there is NO noise at all bottom line. This is a great thing cause you can have your bass turned up all the way now with your high gain pedal on have a conversation with someone and not playing at all and it's quiet...HUGE adavantage NO annoying BUZZ. The overdrive is just that much tighter more precise. Especially during stops like when you stop playing between parts there is no noise instead of before where you stop and there is that excess background buzz...Anyways I just got it and havent tried it out yet in a full loud band setting but we'll see how it does there but so far just playing by myself...well lets say it wont be turned off anytime soon...lol

Well.. Yeah, but...

All these not-playing advantages can be handled by ANY-old gate pedal! The very-best, remote-sense noise reducer pedal - the Boss NS-2 - does all you're talking about perfectly.

But how'bout when you're running trebly, hissy, buzzy, high-gain rig settings, and you want to roll-off the bass tone, and finger-style - all-dubby up in the middle of the neck? If you don't have a dynamic filter, that noise is going to annoyingly poke-up with every pluck! ...And for that they suck.

Another thing, remember, is that remote-sensing: So if you have a regular gate, what happens when you change gain anywhere in your chain? -You're forced to re-calibrate your threshold -- EVERY time! How'bout when you turn a distortion unit on and off? -you HAVE to re-set the threshold! ...And for that they suck.

Remote-sensing AND a world-class dynamic lowpass filter? Oh Baby.
