Issue with pickup adjustment (Vintera II Jazz)

I just got a Vintera II Jazz (2023, if I’m interpreting the SN accurately), and the pickups won’t adjust. The screws just come up without the pickup moving at all, and I couldn’t even pull it up with my fingers.

Does anyone know whether they use foam or springs? It doesn’t seem like it should be old enough for the foam to have deteriorated. Do I need to just back the screws out and let it sit, in hopes the foam (if that’s what it is) decompresses?

Hoping to not have to take them out, since I just put new strings on it and adjusted the truss rod, action, and intonation. Not that I’d have to do all that again, but it’s just kind of a pita to take it back apart right after getting it all back together.

Sounds like foam to me. I've had older instruments do the same and, like yours, defied normal paths of remediation including brute force, rocking back 'n forth, etc. IIRC, instilling small amounts of naptha via needle / syringe will loosen things up without damaging the surrounding materials. Do a search for the details as they escape me at the moment.

Foam could be super dry or just a bad set of them from the factory. I’ve never had this issue with P-Basses or any other model but I’ve come across similar with Jazzes…maybe it’s a Jazz Bass thing?

I pretty much completely rebuilt my P bass when I got it, so I put that foam in myself. That was before the Jazz was even made, though, and it still adjusts just fine.

I managed to get them adjusted. Had to just grab them and pull them up little by little, but it wasn’t easy. Put them to factory recommended specs, where they will stay for the foreseeable future.
