Issue with Sansamp Bass Driver Deluxe

I recently purchased a Sansamp Bass Driver Deluxe off eBay.
I have wanted one of these for ages as it has all the features I wanted:
- Multiple bass inputs
- Controllable effects loop
- DI
- Great Sansamp tone (I have been using a RBI for years)

The usability and sound is fantastic!
However...

When switching between banks, I notice there is a slight delay between switching sounds. To be honest it sounds like it is disengaging the 'effected' sound to a bypassed sound before re-engaging to the new sound.

Has anyone else experienced this issue?

What you describe is normal. Because the device is analog we had to make the decision to either have a "pop" when changing presets or do a "cross fade" with the audio. This is usually only noticeable if you hold a sustained note and try to change settings. It can also be exacerbated by not having the unit gain staged properly. You should have the pedal configured for unity gain. This means that the level of the bypassed signal is the same level as your bass without the effect.

That explains why I don't notice any glitching.

btw, is the effect loop level controlled by the BDDI?

I'm sorry for "kidnap" the topic, but if connect my Polytune in the parallel out jack and program a "zero level" in one of the banks, will I have a mute effect, so I can tune my bass without sending signal in the xlr and 1/4 outs?

Yes, that would work. The parallel out is always active. If you aren't using efx, you could also put the tuner in the loop but not connect the efx return. Engaging the loop would give you silent tuning.

Thats cool. Then I have another question.

How the effects loop work? Does it blend the wet and dry signals 50-50? Or does it passes the signal through the loop chain, once connected?

I was thinking of putting my tuner in the loop with some other effects and using the tuners own mute switch. Will that work?

Thanks for the information; I find this very useful as I'm looking into purchasing one.

Another question... If no effects are in the loop, could turning the loop on work as a mute (regardless of where the tuner is located).

If nothing is plugged into the loop the pedal will function as normal. You need to connect a cable or dummy plug to the EFX return of the pedal to break the connection. This will mute the pedal.

Thanks!

We were fooling around with one the other day. Extremely happy with the tone of it. Great product!

We did have an odd thing happen that none of us could explain. Maybe you might know what was going on...

We had plugged a Planet Waves cable (the one with the circuit breaker on it) in the send and had nothing in the return. When the fx loop was turned on, it didn't mute the signal to the board (which is correct based on the above information).

Now the weird part. When we hit the circuit breaker on the cable plugged into the send, the signal to the board was cut. This completely baffled us as the other end of the cable was plugged into nothing. Would you happen to know what could be happening?

Thanks in advance!

The efx loop even with nothing plugged in is still part of the circuit and signal path. By hitting that switch the connection was interrupted. Sometimes those jacks can oxidize and cause an intermittent signal. If that happens just spray some DeOxit into the jacks and work a cable in and out of the send and return jacks several times to clean the jacks.

So I have a Programmable Bass Driver DI, not the Deluxe, but am having intermittent issues that seem to relate to this conversation. The issue is that my switch position 2 is set with lots of drive, and 3 with a moderate amount. However, sometimes it is just clean, regardless of the level on the bass or switching to different presets or whatever. Then the next day everything is fine. Either Preset 1 is being selected in spite of the LED indicating otherwise, or the drive circuit is intermittent. Any ideas?

I think you've already been in contact with our technical support staff. If not, let me know.-
