That song seems to straddle the line between early-'70s bubblegum pop and mid-'70s disco.
Exactly. Some call this subgenre "proto-disco".

I've always liked that groove. It's slower than most disco; not your typical incessant four-on-the-floor THUMP THUMP THUMP THUMP - although that can be quite pleasing, too!

That was fun! I would describe it as futuristic disco, or maybe sci-fi disco.
I like the stuttering effect on the synth chord swells from 0:27 to 0:50.
Yep, that's really cool. Probably made by envelope fliter plus square wave LFO modulating the VCO volume with some delay.
