Thanks for the answer. The problem with ebay is that I will have to pay for customs. Combined with shipping the price will be over my budget. If not, I would probably go with fralins, which I use in my other bass. I cannot take a decision because I don't know how aguilar or delano will sound compared to fralins.

I installed the Bass Mods j pups--one didn't work at all, & the other is in the bridge position. Dis-appoint. Other pickups work fine. I don't know waht's wrong with this one but it's dead.
I didn't get to test at a strong volume but quietly it sounded like an improvement. Wish i took pics. They look like Delano or EBMM poles.

SO I have a Fender Japan in the bridge & BM in teh neck (in a Squier VMJ)

g.e. smith mentioned that he screws his bridge pickup (telecaster) into the wood--assuming he meant no springs between the pickup & body. I did the same. sounds great I like it.

Just a couple of data points:

Lollars paired with an Audere is a HOT combination. Compared to my Squarmoth fretless, which is equipped with Seymour Duncan Antiquity IIs and an Aguilar OBP-2, my Hwy One Jazz w/Lollars and Audere pushes waaaay more volume. Granted, the Hwy One is strung with round wounds while the Squarmoth is strung with flats, but when I laid down a loop with the Hwy One and then went to play over it with the fretless, I could barely hear the Squarmoth. Whenever I start gigging again this may pose a problem. Might have to put Lollars and an Audere in the fretless too.

I'm thinking of getting a pair of Area J's for a bass with an ash body and rosewood fingerboard, and wiring the neck pickup in parallel with the bridge pickup in series. Can anyone give me a rough estimate of how this will sound?

Have you seen Fender CS60 jazz bass pickups resistance on their website?

It says:
DC Resistance

• Neck: 9.0k ohms
• Bridge: 8.8k ohms

There is a snapshot of the box saying 7.1k on the same page.
It used to be

Neck: 7.1k ohms
Bridge: 7.4k ohm

Could this mean Fender is producing new CS60 J pickups without telling anybody ?
I've also noticed that there are several different packaging for CS60 pickups.

that's very hot and a significant jump. I'm surprised they even overwound pickups that are supposed to be throwback.

agreed, that is higher... but the CS60 IS marketed as an overwound pickup...
The Pure Vintage pickups are the "throwback" designs...

They usually communicate on every very little change. I can't believe they replaces CS60 pickups without saying it. Could be a big mistake.

It has always been mentioned they were overwound even if when specs were 7.1 and 7.4k
I've just emailed them about this. We will see.

I just put these Delano JMVC 5FE/AS in my jazz-5 amer. std. this shot is when I just put them in, I've adjusted them since. and I have to say they blow away the stock fender pickups that were in there.

I wonder if anyone agrees? I swapped out my hand-wound custom made single coil pickups measuring 8.37 ohm (neck) and 9.57 ohm (bridge) to a set of Aguilar Split Coil pickups. No particular reason apart from curiosity! They are in my old fretless Fender jazz and I'm loving them! When I say I'm loving them I mean I really dig the fact that there is no noise no hum just the notes I'm playing. Did some recordings and I was shocked to hear what I long suspected, I was secretly in denial, the recordings revealed that my single coil pickups had life in them, organic non surgical, rough and a little nasal, not as hot, yet much more articulate on the fretless! That occasional hum is such small sacrifice. I wonder if any of the other fretless players out there also experienced similar I wouldn't say problems, it's more like ok I've learned something new! Nu?

I put Lindy Fralin split coils in my RW J and shielded everything, and am loving the tone I'm getting out of it. Sold the stock single coils. Bass is strung with DR Lo-Riders.

EDIT: Bought a pair of Aguilar 5J-HC used... review with clips incoming. If I get a deal on Nordstrand NJ5FS I'll pick those up too & do clips.

Hi, would anybody be so kind to recommend me a set for my geddy lee j? I'm getting a new audere preamp VV/Hmid-Lmid/Treble-Bass my budget is $150 and I play rock music. Do they make Neck pups that sound like p bass pups?
