Jack Casady Bass Review

Major congrats Muggsy, all of us Jack owners should start
our own website! This bass is going to grow on you like
moss. See what I mean about the Sunburst? It's dynamite,
right? We expect a full report as soon as possible. Try
turning all the midrange off on your amp, and turn the
bass up, and the treble down a bit. Sounds kinda like a
stand up? You and I did get the deal of the Century for
$449.00. To me, this bass is worth twice the price.
I might try the TI strings myself soon. I put a set of
rotosound Jazz bass on it, and it sounds excellent.

Bernie, what do you think the Casady sounds like? It's
kinda hard to put your finger on it, no?

Congratulations again Mug.

Now I just have to convince my girlfriend to pose in her
birthday suit on the rug with this thing. If she does, I
will post a shot of it here, although I'll have to check with administration first. It won't be too racey.(Ha)

Mike,it is very hard to describe the sound of any bass except in general terms.It does have a more open,richer,fuller sound than anything else ive tried.Probably the nicest thing about it is how responsive it is to plucking technique.With a light touch and the selector switch on 50 you could sit in with a small quartet of classical types.Put it on 500 dig in,and you can send a crazed metal guitarist running away wimpering with his tail between his legs.A tidal wave of mean ass bass chasin his butt down the road.Its great!I tried this baby thru an Ampeg SVT 3Pro/Ampeg 8x10 classic the other day at a local dealer.It was AWESOME!!!Took all my strength to walk out of there without buying that rig.The glare in my lady friends look helped.She pull that crap again:She GONE!!!Good luck!

I've had a little more time to play with the Jack bass today. Mike, you're totally right about that upright sound, which is something I could never get with my p-bass. I can't really describe what I like so much about the sound of this bass, but it must be the hollow body -- the tone is just rich. Also, it looks killer. I can tell I'm gonna have a lot of fun figuring out what it can do.

Hey Muggsy, day by day, you'll get different sounds from this bass. All I can say is, try your amp at all different
settings and fool around with the varitone switch and the
tone control on the bass. Every little adjustment affects
the tone SO much. Now that you own one, you know what I meant when I tried to descibe its sound at the beginning of
this thread. That's why I asked Bernie. It's hard to nail
down this bass's tone in words. Also guys, don't you think
that ad that Epiphone had in the magazines was weak and
didn't do this axe justice? They gotta do better.

Hey Bernie, sorry to hear of your angst with your woman, but
I think they get jealous of all the attention we pay to our
wooden friends. I say, don't take women fishing, or to the
music store! You are not alone.

I can not believe this! This is a soap opera. Those filthy
dogs at(we know where) have a conspiracy going on. I'm
callin' the FBI. I'm still glad I bought mine though.

Will John pay too much for his Jack Casady? Will Jessica
delay her wedding 'till the bass is back in stock? Will
Epiphone move back to the States?

Fellow Jacksters,

I've found that SIT 50-105 Powerwound strings make the ol' Jackbass sound real GOOD! Lots of top-to-bottom tonal range and power. I use mine mostly in a rockabilly/classic rock trio through an eighties GK 400RB w/ EV18 cab (custom German-made). This is a killer combination in small clubs. Talk about yer rich sounding bass, this baby has it all! Basso Profundo. And you ain't lived 'til you've heard a Jackbass through an SVT in a medium-sized club from a raised wooden stage. Mama! Who's that cringing in the corner with the soiled laundry????

Hey Boogie, what's up? Day after day the Jack just sounds better. Remember that humming I told you about when I first
got my bass? Well, it went away. Thank God. I've never heard
of SIT strings, but, I'll look for them. I have rotosound
Jazz bass strings on it right now, and they sound pretty
good, although some guys in the string section said that
Pyramid strings are the best as far as flatwounds go.
Your Jack must sound unbelievable through that GK rig,
and through an 18? Whoa! I'll see if I can take some pix
this weekend. Now that we have an unofficial "Jack Club",
we should all post photos of our Casadys. Now, if I can just
drag my honey out of the tub when she's loaded during one
of her extended wine and candle baths... I'm still trying.

I was listenin' to the oldies station tonight, and on comes the Stones
"Sympathy For the Devil". Ahh, memories :rolleyes: I first learned this
on a 70's M/M Stingray. I had to bring up those "mutes" to full to get
the right funk.

As I was listenin' tonight, I heard a familiar "snarl".
Was Wyman usin' a semi-acoustic? Vox or Rivoli type?
Anyhoo, I plugged my Casady into "ol' Bluey" (Ampeg B15) and set
the varitone on "max snarl" (pos. 3).

Hee hee HEEEE. Thar' it was! :D

I read that it was actually Keith Richards who played bass on that one, not Bill Wyman (in a copy of Bass player). I think he used a P bass (he used one in the Rock n' Roll Circus film with the Supergroup - Bill Wyman uses a Vox violin bass hollowbody with the Stones in that film, and plays "Sympathy" differently to the recorded version).

Wow, zombie thread alert! I sold my Jack bass years ago because I never got comfortable with the body shape, but they are absolutely great basses. I also love the new colors I've seen recently (silverburst and royal blue). And I had forgotten what a great deal I got on mine. Funny that I was excited about getting a second bass - that was a long time ago. :D
