I'm thinking of getting one because they are cheap and they have alder body. I would have gone for SX bass but the shipping to Croatia is more expensive than the bass itself (and their headstocks are very ugly). So has anyone heard about these basses or has anyone played them? And what nut width do they have on the PB models?

well, i've got a review from "gitarre&bass" (a german magazine). there it says, that the pb measures 41,4mm at the nut. the review further says that they (pb and jb) are of pretty good quality (wood, hardware) especially when taking into account the price of €111.
if you pm me your e-mail i would be happy to send you scans of the article (written in german).

Thanks for the info! But I don't need the scans because I can't read german...
So I guess i will be buying one soon ;)

Only problem is, if I decide to change the neck with some fender... I can't, because it has 21 frets, and all of the p bass neck have 20 frets. I just hope J&D basses have a decent fret job.

If I were you, I wouldn't waste money on J&D. IMHO, they're much like thomann's (www.thomann.de) in-house brand "Harley Benton". That is, they're ordering a bunch of no-name Chinese-made basses, setup them and sell under their brand. The quality of these instruments is generally very poor, especially electronics and fretwire. I would go for Ibanez GSR200, Fender Squier or Yamaha RBX.

And all of those basses have have cheap wood: basswood and agathis. J&D have alder, the same wood as the fenders... well at least MIM ones. And I will change the electronics so no need to think which ones have better pickups.

What other bass 'online store' options for more reasonable shipping cost to Croatia? Are there European online stores that ship from Italy, Switzerland, or Germany without charging big money to your country?

Yes there are, I think it's best to buy from German sites because they have some contract with Croatia that we only have to pay shipping and don't have to pay (I think) tax. That's why I was thinking about getting J&D bass, because they are sold from German site called www.musicstore.de. If anyone has info on any other German or European site that sells SX or Jim Deacon basses I would be very grateful.
I only know about thomann, music store and musik schmidt.
