Jaco/HX Stomp

Hello all

I just got the HX Stomp today...I have to say it generally sounds pretty damn good. I've been messing around with the guitar presets and they're impressive.

I'm not the greatest at figuring out tones but I was just wondering if anyone might have some ideas about some Jaco style sounds. I'm playing a Fretless Squire with the Dimarzio Area J's. I've been transcribing Jaco on Donna Lee from the first album and would love to get a bit closer to his sound.

I think he was using the Acoustic Amp from that time on but not sure if he was using that in the studio. To my sort of untrained ear, it almost sounds direct, with little or no room sound but still has plenty of body. Between his fingers and the sound of the rig, everything is super clear and precise.

I'm totally not good at hearing this sort of stuff though.

Anyway, if anyone has messed around with the Stomp and had some ideas I'd love to hear them.

Favor the bridge pickup, roll off some tone on the bass. Boost the bass a bit on the Stomp's eq. That will get you closer. I also like a bit of compression. I use the La studio comp.

Also... check out the Upright Bass Ir's from 3Sigma. I use the German bass one though all are good. On fretless it adds a nice vibe. On my fretless ABG it is like wow!

As long as you are new to the stomp, study up on the crossover split. I use it after a compressor block and send 120 to 160 and below to path B. I put the Teemah distortion at very, very low gain on that and maybe some chorus on Path A. Wooly lows and shimmery highs. Way cool. You can thank user Jkos !
