Jaco Pastorius DVD

IMO, it is just a good DVD to sit back and watch. Not really a lot of instruction going on, just a lot of stuff that we know more about today (harmonics, false harmonics... pinch harmonics). Most of the DVD has JAco just jamming, and I have no regrets paying 40 bucks for it.

The bouncer that killed Jaco was a black belt, he could have easily subded Jaco without crushing his face.....there is a special place in hell waiting for him!!! He only served six months in jail. On that Video Jaco dosen't even have his own bass, it's a jazz bass with a maple P-bass neck on it. Try recovering from any drugs for a few days, and have a strange bass put in your hands and play your best....you can tell Jaco has the "shakes" in that video. BTW Jaco's daughter Mary is also bi-polar, checkout his website sometime.

about the DVD: it really inspired me a lot to see Jaco play, and talk too! Not just like other concert VCDs where he just play. But as some of u guys said, its the lowest point of his life, but its still a good source of information and inspiration for me. I have watched the video clip for like 10 times, still trying to get hold of a DVD, kind of hard to get it here, hate to resort to Amazon.

about his life: I think what makes me sad is not that someone have beaten him to death, but just that how he basically just broke down, and use drugs, and sleep on the road... I mean, there should be at least millions of people that worshipped this guy, bassist and audience included, aren't there anything that can be done to save this guy?

Or issit like, we just appreciate what he have done to revolutionize the music, and when he can't anymore, we just ditch him? Over and over again in TB, there are posts asking newbies to get Jaco Self Debut Title, Heavy Weather Title, the Birthday Title, I mean, do we just appreciate the good times of him? And we just ditch him when he is in bad times?

Well, I am only born in 1978, so maybe some of u guys that are from his era, can inspire me over here.

Do u guys get to know about Jaco before or after he leave us?

I was playing when Jaco came on the scene......I realized there was hard working players/ talented players & gifted players......Jaco was gifted!!! But with that gift came a curse!

I think with his illness he turned his back on his carrer and fans a little. He was a very sick man, if he was mentally stable he wouldn't of gotten himself in the situation he did which lead to his death. His actions were of a sick person.

In spite of whatever personal problems he may or may not have been experiencing at the time, it's still a good video to watch. Sure, there are some flubs and some wrong notes, but there are some good moments. If you're interested in getting an up close look at "how" Jaco played, as opposed to the theory behind his work, this video is worth it IMO.

I first saw the video when I was a beginner at bass,I did some practicing,read the Jaco bio and watched the vid. again and it made some sense.
and yes at the end he was a "little feeling good",for 3 or 4 days before the video shoot he was held up in a hotel room with some "hired hands"from the video company,and was made to not wander from the hotel room at all(for fear of taking the money and not doing the vid)
And at the very end he had 2 or 3 beers because shooting was almost complete and enuff film was done.
And though it was only a few beers,when a person is in the final stages of alcohol dependency,just a few ounces will get the person drunk because their body can no longer process it as efficiently,thus causing the person to be able to drink less than when he was at an earlier stage where he would be able to drink many under the table.
I can testfy to this for I am a former addict/drunk and rehab counselor,its a sad story to watch because it was similar to mine and many of my friends(who have now past on due to similar circumstances)
REST IN PEACE JACO,AND LOUIE D. :bawl:

Yeah, after that last time Jaco kicked the door, Luc Haven came out and Jaco took off running. Mr. Haven had to chase him down (probably even off the propertly of the club) and beat him to a pulp.

He said that Jaco took a swing at him so he shoved him and he fell back and hit his head, yet he was covered in bruises, his eyes were swollen shut, and even had internal injuries.

There is a special place in hell for that bastard Luc Haven.

Believe it or not, not too long ago you could still locate Luc Haven's address and phone number (still in Florida) on Switchboard.Com but I just tried it again and it doesn't come up any more. He must have gotten harrassed too much.

I wonder how much royalty Jaco get for making that Video shot? That must have been sold at least millions of copies! Since Jaco is RIP now, do the remastered DVD does any royalty stuffs to his family? If royalty is paid, the amount must have been enough to earn him a good living, and some medication perhaps.

I recall seeing in the third part in the Videio that Jaco threw the bass at the Drummer??
